Peer Review Policy

The SAIS Review of International Affairs welcomes original work on contemporary issues in foreign policy and international relations from scholars, policymakers, and experts from all fields. Submissions for the print journal are accepted semiannually in August and February. Adaptations or reprints of previous work will not be considered for publication in the print journal, but may be considered for publication on SAIS Review’s website ( .

Review Process

Submissions receive a preliminary review to determine suitability within one week of submission. Once suitability is determined, a blind first-round review is conducted by SAIS Review’s editorial staff, and the piece is returned to the author. Authors then work with SAIS Review editorial staff on further revisions until the final manuscript deadline. The final manuscript is reviewed by School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) faculty and submitted for publication.

  • Preliminary Review – Completed within one week of submission.
  • First-Round Blind Review – Completed within two weeks of submission.
  • Author Revisions – Returned to editorial staff within three weeks of submission.
  • Further Revision – Continues at the editorial staff and author’s pace until final manuscript deadline.

Final Review

Articles reviewed by SAIS faculty, generally six weeks after initial submission.
