"Come for the recipes, stay for the political activism." Joining us on this episode is Dr. Leland Tabares, currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Loyola University New Orleans. Prior to this position, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow of Contemporary American Literature at Washington University in St. Louis and a Visiting Assistant Professor of Asian American Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His latest paper, "Misfit Professionals: Asian American Chefs and Restaurateurs in the Twenty-First Century" appears in the Summer 2021 issue of the journal Arizona Quarterly. Listen as we learn more about how "misfit" Asian American chefs are gaining mainstream acclaim through challenging the norms of the restaurant industry.
