Andrew Jackson is portrayed here on horseback in a lithograph created by John Hansen sometime before the Civil War.  Military men were often shown with their horses, but with Jackson this was especially appropriate because horses were so central to his life.  He bought and sold them, he raced them for money, and he spent a great deal of time traveling on them.  (Print of lithograph by John Hansen.
