Peer Review Policy

Submissions to Victorian Periodicals Review (VPR) should be original work that has not been simultaneously submitted to any other publication. Essays are first reviewed by the editor before moving on to double-blind review by two experts in the field. Essays published in VPR examine the editorial and publishing history of Victorian periodicals. Emphasis is on the historical, critical, or bibliographical importance of periodicals in the history and culture of Victorian Britain, Ireland, and the Empire. Additionally, reviewers look for originality of argument, engagement with relevant scholarship, organization and signposting of major claims, and a high standard of writing. We aim to notify authors of our decision within three months after submission. Once accepted, essays go through at least one additional round of revision in cooperation with the editor. Articles are typically published within a year of acceptance.
