Peer Review

South Central Review is the official journal of the South Central Modern Language Association (SCMLA). It publishes original articles of 6,000 to 9,000 words, as well as interviews, special features, as well as special issues on important and timely topics in the humanities.

All submissions are vetted by the editorial staff before being sent out to experts in the field to which they apply. The journal’s policy is to double blind review all submissions: following an initial reading by the editorial board, two expert readers are invited to review the essay. Final decisions are generally communicated to authors within three to six months.

South Central Review also accepts proposals for special issues. For special issues, a two-page description of the topic should be submitted, along with a list of contributors who have agreed to contribute to the issue and the cv’s of all prospective contributors. Proposals are reviewed by the editorial board, and generally by one or two experts in the field. Once approved, it is the responsibility of the guest editor to assemble and review the essays, asking for revisions if necessary. The entire issue is then submitted to South Central Review for a final review.

Interviews and special features (commentaries, review essays, etc.) are published at the discretion of the Editors.

In keeping with SCMLA policy, all contributors to South Central Review are expected to be members of SCMLA in the year their article appears.
