| 2006 | "Theatrical Milestones: Past Legacies, Present Possibilities, Future Strategies" celebrates ATHE’s 20th year as an organization. Moíses Kaufman gives the keynote address, and Karen Finley performs. Vice President for Conference is Michael Ellison. ATHE creates a 20th Anniversary DVD which chronicles its roster of Presidents with video interviews for an online archive of ATHE’s history. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE. ATHE offers the first discounted graduate student housing option to help alleviate the financial burden of the conference city. ATHE is a co-founder of the Coalition for Theatre Education (CFTE) made up of like-minded arts organizations advocating for the arts in education. A "Freedom of Expression White Paper" is developed and disseminated widely through K-12 and higher education institutions. | 2007 | In New Orleans, LA, the site of "Regeneration: Theatre and Performance as a Regenerative Force," Sister Helen Prejean presents the keynote address with a video clip of Tim Robbins. Performers include José Torres Tama, the New Orleans Nightcrawlers Jazz Band, and the "Actions" Cabaret. Vice President for Conference is Michael Wright. ATHE inaugurates the Katrina Project in an effort to assist the local community with re-building efforts following the devastating Katrina hurricane. This project is an outgrowth of the BTN Alliance. Suzanne Burgoyne is elected ATHE President. ATHE members create an onsite performance following team "Re-Actions" to New Orleans and its people. ATHE focuses attention on the local community to enrich the conference’s impact. | 2008 | Steve Peters is ATHE’s President Elect, serving in place of President Suzanne Burgoyne who resigned her office in 2007. "Difficult Dialogues: Theatre and the Art of Engagement" is the theme for this Denver, CO-based conference. Augusto Boal presents the keynote address as well as leading a two-day paid workshop. ATHE presents its first "micoFringe Festival" highlighting ATHE member performances and local performers. Diana Milosevic and Helen Raffo give performances. Vice President for Conference is David Kaye. The Playwrights Program produces The Hollow and Other Plays, A Collection of Plays from the New Play Development Workshop, 2004-2007, edited by M. Heather Carver and Kevin McFillen. The Interactive Theatre Program Task Force of the Advocacy Committee meets to discuss future projects and products. At the third joint conference between AATE and ATHE held at the New York Marriott Marquis, the conference focuses on "Risking Innovation." Howard Gardner is the keynote speaker. The theme of innovation as a strategy for survival in theatre programs is reinforced in the second all-conference "elephant in the room" plenary. Vice Presidents for Conference are Harvey Young and Christina Marin and Karina Naumer from AATE. ATHE’s Leadership Institute® celebrates its 10th Anniversary with a special reception for co-directors Barbara A. Korner and Mark Heckler and speaker Marlene Ross. ATHE initiates a new award for Leadership in Community-Based Theatre and Civic Engagement which honors Norma Bowles, Fringe Benefits. Events include Suzan-Lori Parks, keynote speaker, a MicroFringe Festival, an outdoor Labyrinth, and an Arthur Lessac paid workshop. Vice President for Conference is Nina LeNoir.
