The Lion and the Unicorn is a theme- and genre-centered journal of international scope committed to a serious, ongoing discussion of literature for children. It has become noted for its informative interviews with authors, editors, and other prominent figures in the field such as Chris Crutcher, Lensey Namioka, Aranka Siegal, and Mildred Wirt Benson. Special issues have included in-depth examinations of "Forgotten Authors," "Irish Children's Literature," "French Children's Literature," and "Folklore in/and Children's Literature." Now published three times a year, the journal has expanded its book review section and has added a general issue to each volume.

Readers include: Librarians, teachers, writers, scholars, and those interested in children's literature.
