Arethusa 33.2 (May): Fallax Opus: Approaches to Reading Roman Elegy.
Guest Editor: Trevor FearFallax Opus: Approaches to Reading Roman Elegypresents six essays which demonstrate current modes of apprehending elegy (the deconstructive potential of elegiac language, the contextual elaboration of issues of power and gender and the interpretive history of the text), allowing a rounded image of the contemporary significance of elegy to emerge. The essays engage the broad scope of elegiac material available in the form of the very different works of Tibullus, Propertius and Ovid, in addition to the didacticism of the Ars Amatoria and the understudied elegiac work of the woman writer Sulpicia.
