Secrets of the Hoary Deep
Nobel Prize winning astronomer and founding director of the Space Telescope Science Institute Riccardo Giacconi discusses his new book Secrets of the Hoary Deep at a celebration hosted by the Press, JHU's Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the Baltimore Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. A reception and book signing begins at 6:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Bloomberg Center for Physics and Astronomy, followed by a talk at 7:00 p.m. in the adjacent auditorium. By special arrangement, the observatory on the roof of the building will be open to guests before and after the talk. Flat shoes are recommended for access to the observatory. By invitation. Here Lies Jim Crow
Baltimore Sun columnist and WYPR commentator Fraser Smith discusses his history of the struggle for civil rights in the state of Maryland, Here Lies Jim Crow. A private reception and book signing for friends of the Press and the Pratt takes place in the reading room of the Eddie and Sylvia Brown African American History Collection at 6:00 p.m. A talk by the author follows at 7:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Auditorium. Reception by invitation; the talk is free and open to the public.
